Simoco Partners with affini to show Queensland Councils the Path to Cost Effective, Interoperable Communications

Councils to see the benefits of unified communications from Simoco Group at LGAQ, Booth 66, Cairns Convention Centre, Queensland, Australia, 21-24th October

7th October 2013 – Simoco, a global mobile radio specialist, will demonstrate the benefits of unified communications with the Simoco Xd digital radio system at this year’s Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) conference in Cairns, Queensland, Australia.

Simoco has partnered with Team Telecom Group (TTG) sister company affini Technology Ltd for the conference to showcase the affini Real-Time Connect (aRTC) unified critical communications solution. Simoco Xd is a fully standards compliant, end-to-end DMR system built on Simoco’s all-IP architecture. This offers users cost-effective digital quality voice communications with the DMR standard, as well as the latest advances in intelligent Man Down and GPS tracking, making it an ideal solution for council employees working in the field. Simoco Xd is also software-upgradable to Tier III trunked DMR with no additional hardware and is highly scalable from single site to multi-site systems.

aRTC provides the ability to integrate the radio system with a growing set of communication technologies. Organisations can integrate and utilise real-time information feeds from a disparate set of business systems and applications across audio, data and video environments, including voice recording, IP telephony, asset tracking and telemetry. aRTC uses the WAVE module, a Radio over IP (RoIP) software platform that extends radio communication beyond the boundaries of conventional land mobile radio networks.

Henry Witkowski, Queensland State Manager of Simoco said: “State councils across Australia can gain real benefits from the WAVE module by using it to unify different council voice and data systems, including radio, IP telephony and mobile telephony, into one easy to use software-based platform. Many councils have seen an escalation of the number of smart phones within their organisations. This not only poses a series of potential occupational health and safety (OHS) risks for their employees, but incurs ongoing and increasing costs when compared to the outright purchase of a designated radio network.

“The WAVE module makes it possible to integrate different systems and devices into one simple setup. This means that councils can not only avoid continuing to purchasing large fleets of mobile phones on costly contracts, but they can unify their existing network devices through WAVE, while moving to a future proof, cost effective radio network.”

Ian Carr, CEO of Simoco Group added: “Interoperability is a crucial part of our Simoco Xd DMR system, and by using two-way radios in conjunction with other devices, councils can improve safety measures by adding enhanced features such as Man Down and GPS tracking. Councils can also realise significant cost savings by introducing two-way radios and reducing expenditure on mobile phones for all staff, and increase efficiency by using the push-to-talk functionality.”

The LGAQ is the body for local government in Queensland, set up solely to serve the State’s 73 councils and their individual needs. The LGAQ offers advice and support to local councils, allowing them to improve their operations and strengthen relationships with their communities.
