SK Telecom Recognized for Excellence in Global Sustainability

SK Telecom newly added as a member of 2008 Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes, a world-renowned sustainability index, for its success in integrating sustainability considerations into business (Hong Kong, 22 September 2008) – SK Telecom announced today that it was chosen as a member of the 2008 Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) for its excellence in fulfilling social, ethical, and environmental responsibilities. The DJSI was jointly developed by Dow Jones Indexes and STOXX Ltd., two leading global index providers, along with SAM (Sustainable Asset Management), a professional research, assessment and investment institution for corporate sustainability. It is the first global index that evaluates social, ethical, and environmental values of companies, as well as their financial performance. Corporate governance, risk management, branding, labor practices are some of the many issues assessed in the annual review. This year, the index analyzed 2,545 companies worldwide and selected a total of 320 companies in 57 different industries. SK Telecom was for the first time chosen as one of the ten top performing firms in the Telecommunications industry, among which only four were mobile. The Korean carrier received high evaluations for its continuous efforts in Customer Relationship Management, Privacy Protection System and Talent Attraction & Retention Programs. Young-Chan Nam, Executive Vice President and Head of Management Supporting Division at SK Telecom said, “DJSI Index has high reliability and credibility worldwide and is provided to investors as a highly objective reference. Newly included in the index, we will strive to progress towards a higher level of sustainability and long-term business success. We also expect to further promote interest of investors and investment potentials.” Other companies chosen in the mobile sector were carriers such as Vodafone, Telenor and China Mobile. Other high performing 2008 DJSI members include global companies such as BMW, Intel, Unilever and Air France.
