SKY LAUNCHES SEARCH FOR WOULD-BE SOFTWARE Developers
50 Associate Software Developer roles with the UK’s leading entertainment and
communications company created due to popularity of apps and websites
Thursday 5th May: Sky has announced the launch of a new training academy for 50 of the UK’s brightest software developers in order to best serve its customers with the newest innovations when it comes to its increasingly popular apps and websites, including Sky Sports Football Score and skynews.com.
The successful candidates will join Sky in September this year as associate software developers with a starting salary of £30,000.

I am therefore delighted to be announcing this new scheme to attract the best people to Sky.”
The roles are designed for those at the beginning of a career in software engineering. Applications from new graduates and those with some relevant experience will be considered. The launch of this scheme builds on Sky’s existing graduate programme in which there are currently 160 graduates working over nine areas across Sky’s business. The graduate placements are for two years and typically include four, six-month long placements in different specialisms within the chosen area.
The new recruits, based at the company’s offices in Osterley, Greater London, will be focused on developing new apps, websites and interactive and mobile services. Training will combine technical skills development and an opportunity to work on a number of live projects from across the business.

Sky’s apps are amongst the most popular free apps available – to date the Sky News and Sky Sports Football Score apps have been downloaded by more than 5 million mobile users between them. A new Sky+ app for iPad users was launched last month and aims to match the success of the Sky+ iPhone app which has been downloaded by 1.7 million people.
Websites from the company, including skysports.com, skynews.com and sky.com, also attract almost 10 million unique users each month.
