Skyline Communications’ DataMiner platform
at the heart of Sky

Izegem, Belgium, March 2018 – Skyline Communications, global leader in end-to-end multi-vendor network management, orchestration and OSS software solutions for the broadcast, satellite, cable, IPTV and mobile industry, has been selected by Sky, Europe’s leading entertainment company, to provide the new overarching Operations Management System (OMS) for their UK operation.
Skyline is delivering the award-winning DataMiner system to help Sky seamlessly manage the transition of contribution feeds to a self-managed IP network.

“The DataMiner multi-vendor network management platform orchestrates services end to end across any technology boundaries, regardless of the protocol, vendor or technology,” said Steven Soenens, VP Product Marketing at Skyline Communication. “DataMiner’s new Service and Resource Management (SRM) suite combines service, resource and capacity management in real time. Using SRM, an operator can only book network resources and capacity that are effectively available for use. No assumptions on resource availability are made, and all checks are done in real time. Aside from physical resources, DataMiner also handles virtual resources, such as pools of multicast addresses and satellite bandwidth. With DataMiner, operators can monitor, manage and orchestrate the most complex services that run across Sky’s network in multiple countries.”

“The viewer experience is at the heart of live content delivery,” commented Victoria Bailey, Head of Live Content Delivery at Sky UK. “To ensure that our customers never miss a moment, we are working with DataMiner to implement an Operational Management System. This will monitor and control our systems, enabling us to continue to push technical boundaries to deliver the best viewer experience for live events.”

“The broadcast and media industry is going through some radical changes,” added Ben Vandenberghe, CEO at Skyline Communications. “With the current technology evolutions, it has become apparent that the ability and readiness of a broadcast corporation to adapt to continuous change is one of the important keys to being successful. A flexible, vendor- and technology-agnostic management and orchestration platform has become a real must for anybody dedicated to success in this business.”

“It is a real privilege for Skyline to be able to work with Europe’s leading entertainment company,” Ben Vandenberghe concluded. “We are confident that our world-class DataMiner technology will significantly benefit Sky’s operation and the overall viewing experience for customers.”
