SkyVision Selects WORK Microwave Technology to Provide IP Trunking Services in the Middle East and Asia

HOLZKIRCHEN, Germany — June 4, 2012 — WORK Microwave, a leading European manufacturer of advanced satellite communications equipment, today announced that the company’s DVB-S2 IP-Modem SK-IP has been selected by SkyVision, a leading global provider of IP connectivity over satellite and fiber optic systems, to enable IP trunking services in the Middle East and Asia. Utilizing WORK Microwave’s IP modem SK-IP on SkyVision’s satellite platform, SkyVision is now able to provide Internet connectivity solutions with uninterrupted performance direct to Afghanistan, Iraq, and in Asia, regardless of weather, location, or environmental conditions.

“Our satellite platforms provide end-to end IP connectivity as well as an extensive suite of customized solutions and services that’s available globally,” said Golan Madar, vice president of operations at SkyVision. “For the recent IP trunking project, we specifically required reliable, proven, and platform-optimized equipment to ensure the highest quality of service to our customers. WORK Microwave’s IP-Modem SK-IP, with its advanced features, customizable options, and strong industry reputation proved to be the perfect solution for optimizing power consumption, bandwidth and throughput.”

The WORK Microwave IP-Modem SK-IP features a multichannel ACM system (OptiACM) to support full integration of ACM capabilities in point-to-point and point-to-multipoint satellite network links. OptiACM gives users a 30-percent capacity gain over standard DVB-S links and can more than double available throughput. SkyVision will capitalize on these benefits to help mitigate issues caused by weather-related interference that can disrupt links.

OptiACM allows support for multiple modulation/coding (MODCOD) bins within the same carrier by segmenting the carrier into discrete MODCODs, enabling all assigned sites — whether on the fringe of the satellite footprint or in the center of the beam — to operate simultaneously in the same carrier. This technique ensures the most efficient use of the available bandwidth and the best possible transmission rates at all times.

“SkyVision has gained its leadership by consistently providing superior quality IP telecommunication services to its customers worldwide,” said Dr. Günter Prokoph, CTO and managing director at WORK Microwave. “The company’s selection of WORK Microwave’s modem technology for IP trunking purposes ensures that SkyVision’s excellent reputation for reliability will be extended to the Middle East and Asia via delivery of high-quality, uninterrupted services to customers in those regions.”
