SkyWave Adds New Eclipse-Based Tool to Application Development Environment

Familiar software brand will make it easier and reduce time to bring unique M2M solutions to market

Ottawa, Ontario, (October 1, 2014) –  SkyWave Mobile Communications, a global provider of wireless data communications for the Machine-to-Machine (M2M) market, today announced that their software toolkit now includes an Eclipse-based Integrated Development Environment (IDE)  for creating applications that run inside SkyWave satellite and cellular devices.

Eclipse is an open source IDE for programming languages such as Lua and gives a powerful environment in which to build custom software solutions. The new application, called Application Studio, will be included in the IsatData Pro (IDP) Toolkit 2.0 and will take advantage of Eclipse’s familiar look-and-feel and powerful feature set such as code library support, code completion, code folding and integrated documentation support.

The new Application Studio supports SkyWave’s Lua Services Framework (LSF), which includes the network protocol stacks, Lua core services, and access to hardware interfaces for building custom M2M applications. Application Studio allows solution providers to develop their own Lua services to create industry-specific solutions and reduce communication costs by processing and transmitting only necessary data at the device level.

“Many of our customers are already accomplished Eclipse users,” said Sue Rutherford, Vice President Marketing at SkyWave. “With active members of the user development community in prominent corporations such as IBM, Sierra Wireless, Oracle and Google, using the Eclipse platform made logical sense to reduce our customers’ time to market by improving developer productivity as well as provide the ability to deliver relevant and unique M2M solutions to the market.”

Application Studio in IsatData Pro (IDP) Toolkit 2.0 is now available for all SkyWave Solution Providers and can be downloaded from the SkyWave Customer Support Portal (https://support.skywave.com). For more information about the Eclipse Foundation, please visit http://eclipse.org/.
