SonicWALL Earns NSS Labs’ ‘Recommend’ Rating in 2012 Next-Generation Firewall Comparative Testing

Among Recommended Vendors, SuperMassive E10800 Provides Highest Overall Protection, Highest Performance in Next-Generation Firewall Group Test

12 March 2012

SonicWALL, a provider of intelligent network security and data protection solutions, has announced that NSS Labs, the recognised leader in independent security product testing, gave the SonicWALL SuperMassive E10800 its highest rating of ‘Recommend.’ To achieve this ranking, SuperMassive excelled in one of the industry’s most comprehensive, real-world tests of next-generation firewalls and secured a leadership position in NSS Labs’ Security Value Map (SVM).

The NSS Labs Next-Generation Firewall Product Analysis showed that the SonicWALL SuperMassive E10800 running SonicOS 6.0 is the highest overall protection next-generation firewall to earn the NSS Labs ‘Recommend’ rating.

“Those that consider the SonicWALL brand to be associated with SMB (Unified Threat Management) UTM products will need to reevaluate their opinion,” says Vikram Phatak, chief technology officer at NSS Labs. “For high-end multi-gigabit environments looking to upgrade defenses from their current firewall to a next-generation firewall, the advanced architecture of the SonicWALL SuperMassive E10800 running SonicOS 6.0 provides an extremely high level of protection and performance.”

Says Martin Tassev, MD at LOOPHOLD Security Distribution, distributor of SonicWALL security solutions, “The results of this security test further reinforces our confidence in the brand and more specifically, in the SonicWALL SuperMassive E10800.  It features the best combination of performance, effectiveness and value of any firewall tested, and is testimony to the commitment we have to our resellers and their end user to deliver best of breed products.”

NSS Labs designed the test to focus on the following four areas:

•       Security effectiveness

•       Performance

•       Stability

•       Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)

The SuperMassive E10800 was measured by NSS Labs at 18.9 Gbps of inspected throughput. Additionally, the SonicWALL device yielded the highest level of real-world HTTP Connections per Second (CPS), ranging from 55,000 to 238,000 CPS for session lengths spanning 44KB to 1.7KB. The E10800 exhibited less than 30 microseconds of latency under UDP test traffic conditions.

According to the NSS Labs Next-Generation Firewall Product Analysis, the SonicWALL SuperMassive E10800 “offers some highly evolved features suitable for large enterprises and multi-tenant / service provider deployments, making it straightforward to apply complex policies in a targeted manner across multiple nested groups of firewalls in large-scale deployments.”

Designed to meet the needs of large enterprise, government, university and multi-tenant / service providers, the SonicWALL SuperMassive E10000 Series delivers scalability, reliability, and deep security at multi-gigabit speeds. Utilising SonicWALL’s Reassembly-Free Deep Packet Inspection engine to scan every byte of every packet, this single integrated solution delivers full content inspection of the entire stream and superior intrusion prevention, malware protection, application intelligence, control and real-time visualisation, and inspection for SSL encrypted sessions while ensuring high performance and low latency.
