South-German optical-fibre network operator COM-IN picks KEYMILE’s FTTH solution
Hanover, 30 April 2013 – Network operator COM-IN is using KEYMILE’s multi-service access platform MileGate to extensively expand its optical fibre infrastructure to connect residential and business customers. The platform will deliver ultra-fast Internet access to end customers.
Telecommunications provider COM-IN from Ingolstadt in south Germany has connected more and more homes and offices to its optical fibre network over the past two years. It aims to expand the optical fibre network all over the town. COM-IN chose KEYMILE’s multi-service access platform MileGate to develop its FTTH/FTTB infrastructure. This active technology is encountered in telecommunications locations called points of presence throughout the town. The MileGate 2510 subrack with over 21 slots is used there. In areas where space is at a premium, for example in plant rooms, the compact MileGate 2310 subrack with eight slots is ideal. Due to the extremely high port density, solutions are easy to provide, even where space is limited. As a result, MileGate 2510 can connect up to 480 end customers via optical fibre. The Ethernet card used by COM-IN provides 24 GbE connections. By using SFP modules, the network operator can fit the laser modules to the cards depending on requirements. This pay-as-you-grow model keeps initial investment costs low.
In 2010, COM-IN delivered the first connections to homes in the north east of the town and the first test customer was connected up to the network in April 2011. By the end of 2013, COM-IN will have connected more than 16,000 homes to the optical fibre network and will offer telephone, Internet and TV products to residential customers in these areas. One package includes an Internet flat rate of up to 100 Mbps downstream and up to 10 Mbps upstream, as well as a telephone flat rate to all German landlines. In addition to Internet and telephone flat rates, another package offers analogue, digital TV and radio programmes too.
