Spanish mobile market turns to Lycamobile as MVNOs experience significant growth.
Lycamobile, the global leader for low cost international mobile calls, has accelerated its customer growth in Spain since May 2012. The increase follows mounting pressure on Spain’s major mobile operators due to the current difficult economic conditions, as users look for more affordable options to keep in touch with their friends and family.
In May this year, Lycamobile officially confirmed its position as the largest MVNO in Spain according to the annual figures declared by the Commission’s Telecommunications Market (CMT), with 18% market share.
Subaskaran Allirajah, Lycamobile Chairman commented: “The current financial pressures in Spain have led to a considerable number of customers turning to affordable pre-paid networks such as Lycamobile. The upturn in pre-paid mobile communication services is due to increasing pressures on consumers to manage their personal finances. Since launching in Spain in 2010 Lycamobile has experienced growth of up to 800% capturing 640,000 customers during 2011. We have achieved this success so rapidly due to our strong brand, compelling value proposition, high quality service and extensive retail distribution. During these times of austerity we are committed to investing in ensuring that our customers are able to stay in touch with their friends and family at the most competitive rates possible.”
