SSE Telecoms Joins The METRO2C Alliance

SSE Telecoms enhances strategic telecoms alliance with access to 91 UK data centres

25th September 2013, Dublin, Ireland – Sea Fibre Networks (SFN), owner and operator of Europe’s most advanced sub-sea telecoms network, CeltixConnect, today announced SSE Telecoms, an SSE company, as a member of the METRO2C Alliance. SSE Telecoms owns and operates a 12,000km network, a flagship data centre in Hampshire, 16 other regional co-location sites and two corporate data centres in the UK. This membership strengthens the METRO2C Alliance’s strategy of working with best in class service providers who continue to invest heavily in the underlying infrastructure that is fundamental for the continuity of a digital ecosystem.

Demand for high capacity, resilient networks from digital enterprises has never been higher due to the adoption of data heavy cloud and content applications required to deliver mission-critical information. By including SSE Telecoms, the METRO2C Alliance provides enterprises with a broad range of diversely routed connectivity options, across a dense fibre footprint connecting over 91 data centres, 200 UK Points of Presence and 17 dedicated co-location sites. This year, SSE Telecoms continues to invest in its network by lighting 180km of London duct network bringing a further 20 London based data centres on-net.

Diane Hodnett, Sea Fibre Networks’ CEO, said; “We are happy to announce SSE Telecoms as the newest member of the METRO2C Alliance. Delivering bespoke connectivity solutions on a pan-European, and indeed global basis, requires strategic relationships with local providers, like SSE Telecoms, who own and continue to invest in critical telecoms infrastructures.”

Chris Jagusz, SSE Telecoms Managing Director said; “Joining the METRO2C Alliance enables SSE Telecoms to reach more enterprises whose business depends on diverse, secure connectivity. Our on-net access to over 91 UK data centres means that we can support the most demanding cloud applications, wherever they’re hosted.”
