Pune, INDIA – May 24, 2011

Sterlite Technologies Limited “Sterlite” [BSE: 532374, NSE:STRTECH], a leading global provider of transmission solutions for the power and telecom industries, announced that it has won two awards at the ‘Top 100 CISO Awards’ organized by InfoSecurity magazine and iViZ Security.

The ‘Top 100 CISO Awards’ program was established to recognize companies that use IT in innovative ways to deliver competitive advantage to the enterprise and enable growth.

In its first edition, the Top 100 CISO award program received about 3000 entries, of which only 250 entries were shortlisted for final evaluation.

The winners were chosen by a jury panel, each of the jury members representing a different segment of industry and area of expertise. The evaluation criteria included technological innovation, improvement in efficiency, security assurance, and several others.

Sterlite received an award for ‘Desktop Virtualization Implementation’ at its newly commissioned optical fiber facility at Aurangabad.

Enterprise-level implementation of this technology stores the resulting “virtualized” desktop on a remote central server, instead of on the local storage of a remote client. Users work from their local machine, whilst all programs, applications, processes, and data used are kept and run centrally. This technology a step forward in adoption of ‘greener IT’ with enhanced information security. Sterlite is one of first adopters of this technology in India.

Sterlite’s central Unified Threat Management (UTM) system for enterprise grade protection, won it an award for ‘Firewall Implementation’ at an enterprise level.

Information security is vital for protecting the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of computer systems, resources, and data; to ensure business continuity.

Sterlite continues to build transparency within its systems and enhance value to its stakeholders. Implementation of a high level of automation in business processes, though the use of information technology, continues to  be a company-wide key focus area.
