TE Connectivity to Present Digital Sensor Interfaces and Ethernet Innovations at Automotive Event Dedicated to On-Board Power Supplies

TE to join industry leaders to discuss latest developments, trends and challenges in automobiles

BENSHEIM, Germany, March 7, 2016 – TE Connectivity Ltd. (NYSE: TEL) (TE), a global leader in connectivity and sensor solutions, will present key technologies at the 4th International Congress for Automotive Wire Harness 2016 in Ludwigsburg, Germany. The event, taking place March 8 and 9, 2016, at the Forum at Schlosspark Ludwigsburg, will feature TE experts discussing digital sensor interfaces as well as modular and scalable connectors needed in the complex and connected cars of today and the future.

“I’m proud that our Digital Sensor Interfaces submission was accepted in Ludwigsburg,” said Dr. Patrick Popp, chief technology officer, TE Transportation Solutions, and member of the event’s Advisory Committee. “TE’s push for digital sensor interfaces opens an opportunity to greatly reduce sensor wiring complexity while significantly enhancing sensor functionality.”

TE key topics include:

  • Digital sensor interfaces – Today a vehicle can be equipped with up to 150 sensors sending data to control units. The prevailing point-to-point connections are responsible for much of the wiring harness complexity. Oliver Schaaf, TE application engineer and expert in automotive sensor technology, will highlight digital sensor interfaces and present TE’s solutions based on bus technology to overcome these challenges.
  • MATEnet modular and scalable connectors for automotive Ethernet – TE will also profile its new MATEnet connectors that provide the performance needed to transmit large volumes of data in vehicles, seamlessly handling increasing data needs while supporting the reliable and cost-efficient use of Ethernet in vehicles. The innovation is designed for the harsh automotive environment and can transmit up to 100 Mbit/s and 1 Gbit/s according to IEEE Automotive Standard 100/1000 BASE-T1. MATEnet connectors bring scalable, high-speed Ethernet solutions based on proven automotive connectivity technology to the market.

“The car is evolving from being the ultimate industrial product to becoming the ultimate technology product,” said Popp. “As such, both in-vehicle sensor networks as well as high-speed communication play an increasingly important role to enable more safety, more autonomy, more connectivity, more fuel efficiency and lower emissions. All are essential for a better customer experience.”

At this year’s event, TE will also showcase its transparent car with a wide range of products and solutions for power connectivity, convenience systems, miniaturization, advanced driver assistance systems, hybrid and electric mobility, and carbon-dioxide emissions reduction. Visitors will see that TE connects nearly every electronic function in the car – from cloud-connected services and alternative power systems to infotainment.

TE has engineered a wide range of solutions for automobiles, including technologies to support Ethernet and evolving bandwidth requirements, power terminals and connectors, and sensors with measurement capabilities for position, pressure, humidity, fluid control and temperature. TE’s engineers are working to help deliver future connected cars and autonomous driving capabilities, and the company is working with industry leaders and notable organizations to develop global industry standards and requirements for in-car networking technology.
