Team Telecom Group Supports Future Generation of Engineers with Appointment of Two New Apprentices

4 October 2010 – Telecommunications specialist Team Telecom Group has appointed two new apprentices – Robbie Dawes and Shane Bayley – to help support the company’s continuing global expansion and develop the skills of the UK’s next generation of radio communications engineers as part of its ongoing apprenticeship scheme.

Working directly with Team Telecom Group companies AirRadio and Team Simoco, the apprentices will be given the opportunity to work across various business departments, ranging from product development and operations to sales, marketing and finance.

Becoming the first apprentice to join Heathrow based AirRadio, Robbie Dawes will complete his two year apprenticeship while studying BTEC Electronic Engineering at Uxbridge College, with his work experience at AirRadio designed to complement the content of his academic studies. During his apprenticeship, Robbie will have the chance to work across AirRadio’s full product portfolio, from analogue and digital trunk radio systems to cellular voice and data applications.

Commenting on his first few weeks at AirRadio, Robbie said: “It certainly hasn’t been dull, something different is always happening with our customers. There is a great team spirit in the workshop and I’ve already enjoyed my first airside visit at the airport, which was really exciting. I’m looking forward to seeing different parts of the businesses and the new challenges they will bring.”

As Team Simoco’s second apprentice, Shane Bayley joins the Derby based business on a two year apprenticeship after which he will become a Junior Radio Engineer. During his apprenticeship, Shane will experience working on Team Simoco’s product portfolio, including Tetra G, Xfin, XBase, SRM mobiles and SRP series hand portables. The work will encompass all aspects of delivering radio systems to Team Simoco’s customers, including system engineering design, system documentation, system integration, site installation and commissioning.

Team Telecom Group CEO Mike Norfield says: “The combination of academic study and practical training will allow Robbie and Shane to develop an in-depth understanding of the radio communications industry, providing them with a vital platform for their engineering careers.

“Following our management buy-out earlier this year, it is a very exciting time for us as a company and a great time for Robbie and Shane to be joining us, with them sure to become key members of the team in helping to support our growing global business operations.”

Team Telecom Group began its apprenticeship scheme in 2009, with the successful appointment of the organisation’s first apprentice, Steven Fox, who is now beginning his second year with Team Simoco. The programme sees a yearly recruitment of apprentices across the globe, with Team Telecom Group company ComGroup, based in Australia, now also having appointed its second apprentice.
