Tekelec Vaults to #1 Leading Independent
Policy Vendor for Full Year 2012
Gains Share with Twelve New Policy Customers
and Expands LTE Footprint to Seven Operators
MORRISVILLE, N.C. — April 9, 2013 — On the heels of winning a dozen new policy management customers last year, including KT and Jasper Wireless, Tekelec has been elevated to the top independent policy vendor in 2012, according to market research company Exact Ventures. The analyst firm’s data estimated that Tekelec grew its PCRF business by more than 50% in 2012 and showed that Tekelec was the only independent firm to gain market share from 2011 to 2012. Exact Ventures estimates that the PCRF market grew nearly 40 percent from 2011 to 2012, and will grow an additional 40 percent in 2013.
“Customers are using Tekelec’s Policy Server to gain scale, manage mobile data growth, and rapidly deliver innovative digital lifestyle services,” said Houck Reed, vice president of product management and marketing at Tekelec. “The Policy Server will gain more importance as service providers evolve to ThinkingNetworks™ that are software-defined, programmable, and virtualized to provide superior network performance and customer quality of experience.”
Tekelec’s policy solutions now serve more than 60 service providers, including more than 50 Tier 1 providers, in 35 countries. Seven customers have purchased Tekelec’s Policy Server to support LTE deployments.
In addition to customer wins, Tekelec’s Policy Everywhere strategy that extends policy to mobile devices, analytics data and OTT applications expands its policy solutions to include the Mobile Policy Gateway, Application Manager, and Policy Analytics Platform.

Tekelec’s Policy Server is a key element of the New Diameter Network, a framework for managing signaling traffic and profiting from mobile data. Other critical components include Tekelec’s Diameter Signaling Router (DSR) and Subscriber Data Management products. Earlier this year, Exact Ventures recognized Tekelec as the #1 market leader in the Diameter Signaling Controller (DSC) market.
