Hong Kong 23 June 2011 – SK Telecom (NYSE: SKM) today announced that two of its customer-oriented offerings have received high-profile industry recognition by winning the “Customer Service Initiative” and “Best Content Service” awards at the prestigious Asia Communication Awards 2011.

The “Customer Service Initiative” recognizes SK Telecom for its first-in-the-world Remote Care which provides real-time, over-the-air smartphone support services to customers. SK Telecom also won The “Best Content Service” award for its innovative “hoppin” offering, a personalized multi-screen content delivery platform.

n “Customer Service Initiative” for Remote Care Service

Remote Care is an intelligent customer service designed to provide smartphone customers with remote, real-time customer service support for free, so that they no longer need to personally take their phones to customer service centers whenever there was an issue. The service sends device status (such as application, battery, memory, network environment, software, etc.) and smartphone screen information to a customer service representative, who can then perform diagnostics or troubleshooting procedures remotely on the phone. This is particularly useful to first-time, less technically savvy or busy smartphone users, or users with network issues at distant locations.

Recently, the number of SK Telecom’s smartphone subscribers reached 6 million. The rapid smartphone adoption in Korea is being translated into ever increasing demand for customer services due to difficulties in using smartphones. According to a WDS Global study, as much as 64% of smartphone handsets were returned to carriers because users suffered difficulties in using them. Remote Care not only answers the strong and growing demand for assistance in using phones, but also differentiates SK Telecom in the competitive telecommunications industry by bringing customer satisfaction to the next level.

n Best Content Service for hoppin

Recognized by the “Best Content Service” award, SK Telecom’s hoppin is Korea’s first multi-screen entertainment content portal offering video on demand (VOD) services through various devices including smartphones, personal computers, and TVs. The service allows customers to seamlessly switch between various devices, while ensuring strict copyright protection with a Digital Rights Management solution.

The cutting-edge service is backed by SK Telecom’s personalization engine, which makes content recommendations based on the analysis of user’s profile, preference and usage pattern. This opens up a new business profit model where the operator can tailor offer services and content to targeted customers, while the platform can be shaped into an effective advertising platform.

SK Telecom said, We feel honored to receive these awards at the Asia Communication Awards 2011. We promise to bring the most innovative services to our customers, and Remote Care service and hoppin are clear examples of how we deliver on this promise. We will continue to deliver top-of-the-industry innovations to our customers as well as those of our regional partners.

The Asia Communication Awards recognizes Asian telecoms companies and individuals for their innovations, achievements and creative services in 14 awards categories that are set to shape the future of the industry regionally and even globally. This year, the winners were announced on June 22 at Raffles Hotel, Singapore.
