Procurement Vehicle Previously Required Work Completion by August 2012; TCS to Continue Agile Delivery of Innovative Satellite Systems and Global Logistics Support

ANNAPOLIS, MD, Dec 21, 2011 –TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS), a world leader in highly reliable and secure mobile communication technology, today announced it has agreed to a second extension to its U.S. Army World-Wide Satellite Systems (WWSS) Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract. Initially issued as a five-year, $5 billion multiple awards contract in 2006, it was last extended through August 28, 2012 and is now extended to July 27, 2013.

The WWSS program is managed by the Program Management Warfighter Information Network-Tactical (PM WIN-T) Joint Program Management Office. Since 2006, TCS has received WWSS funded orders totaling about $500 million and currently has over $800 million of not-yet-funded open orders under WWSS. TCS has won about 65% of the tasks that the company has bid on. About $2 billion of un-awarded contract ceiling remains under WWSS available for use during the extension period. TCS will continue to offer and deliver turn-key, single-source, quick-reaction solutions for emerging communications requirements worldwide in support of all federal missions. TCS leads a team of specialized satellite communications and logistics companies that provide a full range of operations, management and logistics products and services for the WWSS program. Over the past five years, the TCS WWSS team has demonstrated its proven ability to support today’s warfighter.

“This second contract extension affirms that the Army desires a contract vehicle to obtain TCS solutions that meet its need for secure and reliable deployable communications,” said Mike Bristol, senior vice president and general manager, Government Solutions Group for TCS. “For five years and counting, from fabrication and testing, to operation and maintenance, TCS has been supporting our brave warfighters in helping to aid mission success; and we look forward to continuing this work.”
