ANNAPOLIS, MD, Oct 06, 2010 —

TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS), a world leader in highly reliable and secure mobile communication technology, today announced that it was named the sole awardee of a delivery order with a potential value of $269 million over the next 12 months. TCS has received initial funding of $12.3 million to provide the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) with its Wireless Point-To-Point Link-Delta Solutions (WPPL-D) and associated field services. The U.S. Army Project Manager for the Warfighter Information Network-Tactical (PM WIN-T) Commercial Satellite Terminal Program (CSTP) is managing these procurements through the Army’s $5 billion World-Wide Satellite Systems (WWSS) contract vehicle.

The TCS WPPL-D system provides secure point-to-point (PTP) and point-to-multipoint (PMP), line-of-sight (LoS) and non-line-of-sight (NLoS) transmission of voice, video, and data communications. WPPL-D is an integration of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and government off-the-shelf (GOTS) components providing a wireless link extension of up to 35 miles. WPPL enables the USMC to close the gap on the “last digital mile” pushing data services to the network edge using a low-cost alternative to expensive beyond line-of-sight satellite communications.

“TCS supports WPPL-D with the right resources, proven processes, and tested equipment to continue support of the U.S. Marine Corps’ mission,” said Michael Bristol, senior vice president and general manager of government solutions at TCS. “Our experience in delivering hundreds of WPPL-D systems for PM WIN-T in support of the Marine Corps enables us to continue supplying battle-tested products quickly, while meeting or beating schedule requirements,” he continued. “We have and will continue to provide battle tested ruggedized equipment that offers the best value, lowest risk solution for the future of PM WIN-T.”

The newly released TCS WPPL-Lite is also available through this contract. WPPL-Lite is capable of voice, video and data communication at distances up to 15 miles, and can be unpacked and operational in as little as 30 minutes. The WPPL-Lite system provides the same communications functionality as the WPPL-D system in a smaller and lighter configuration for ease of manual pack and transport. The system includes Secret Internet Protocol Router (SIPR), Non-secure Internet Protocol Router (NIPR) capable routers, an in-line encryption device, subscriber radios, five internet protocol (IP) handsets, integrated power supplies, a mast, and cabling in a three case package at only one-third of the weight of the WPPL-D system. The WPPL-Lite is interoperable with all of the WPPL-D systems, enabling existing WPPL-D users to operate WPPL-Lite with little or no additional training. WPPL-Lite is highly configurable, with a choice of multiple radio frequency ranges and different antenna masts.
