Telefónica Deutschland Deploys New Telsis Application Server

Germany’s Telefónica has selected Telsis Intelligent Network (IN) technology to play an enhanced role as the operator consolidates the wireline voice element of its triple-play services across the country.

Telefónica is deploying the latest generation of Telsis application server, Ocean 2280, both to control a rich portfolio of existing value-added services aimed at business and domestic customers, and to give its own engineers the in-house ability to develop and roll out new applications.

The new platform will replace earlier generation Telsis voice technology which was acquired by Telefónica when the operator bought former independent HanseNet in 2010. The original Telsis system had been the cornerstone of HanseNet voice services for more than 10 years. It so impressed Telefónica’s technical seniors that they ordered a doubling of capacity and marked out a larger, wider role in the combined mobile and fixed environment.

The latest deployment is the first result, giving Telefónica the ability to develop and control advanced voice applications for both TDM and NGN environments.

“Key factors for us were the platform stability, the excellent relationship with Telsis and the highly flexible service creation environment,” said Reinhard Jahn, manager IN/OCS at Telefónica.

“We are reassured by the fact that the Telsis platform has a credible roadmap for NGN support. It means we have technology that can play a continuing role as our engineering team works to deliver better service and value for our fixed network customers.”

The Ocean 2280 is a high-performance multi-service application server with its own easy to use service creation environment. It enables operators to create and deploy services that support customers simultaneously in both legacy and next generation environments. This flexibility allows the IN Application Server to be used in a variety of network configurations so that data-intensive services can be offered for large numbers of subscribers, such as number portability, access screening, number translation and intelligent call routing.

Telsis has delivered service innovations to Tier 1 telecoms networks globally for almost a quarter of a century. The company’s solutions enable operators to generate more revenue, strengthen their brands, recruit and retain more customers, drive up Net Promoter scores and increase profitability.

Telsis’ portfolio of services is backed by proven engineering skills, system integration expertise, and a deep understanding of human factors, all of which combine in solutions that enable operators to offer customers exciting and practical services with compelling real-world appeal.
