Telefónica Germany Selects Coriant Smart Router Solution for Evolution of Nationwide Mobile Backhaul Network
LTE-optimized IP/MPLS Router Portfolio, including the 100G-capable Coriant® 8665 Smart Router, Provides Scalable Foundation for Converged Network Infrastructure
NAPERVILLE, Illinois, 14 April 2015 – Coriant, a global supplier of SDN-enabled end-to-end transport networking solutions, today announced that Telefónica Germany has selected the Coriant® and Coriant® (INM) to support the evolution of its mobile backhaul network, including the integration of the O2 and E-Plus network infrastructures. With a wide selection of IP/MPLS routers in its Smart Router portfolio, the Coriant solution will enable Telefónica Germany to cost-effectively expand coverage across a range of mobile backhaul locations while providing the foundation for easy and efficient bandwidth scalability as mobile data traffic continues to grow.
The SDN-ready 8600 Smart Router Series offers diverse platform options under a common management system for flexible backhaul deployment scenarios from cell sites – where the ultra-compact, IP-67 environmentally-hardened design benefits deployment – to high-capacity IP/Ethernet aggregation locations requiring 100G connectivity. The 8600 family delivers industry-leading time/phase synchronization capabilities supporting the most advanced LTE and LTE-Advanced networks. The 8000 INM network manager offers Telefónica Germany full end-to-end network management support and enhanced visibility and control across the network, with automated service configuration and unique testing tools that make the service creation and validation process extremely efficient, thus minimizing operational costs.
“A reliable and agile backhaul infrastructure is key to delivering a high-quality mobile data experience for our customers,” said Cayetano Carbajo, CTO, Telefónica Germany. “We selected Coriant for this important project because of their demonstrated track record in helping service providers modernize mobile network infrastructure to support evolving service demands. We need the advanced capabilities and features of the Coriant IP/MPLS router portfolio – including scalability to 100G and superior 1588v2 synchronization performance – as these will enable us to fully optimize network efficiencies and service performance across our converged network, from high-density aggregation sites to remote locations.”
Coriant’s new high-capacity 8665 Smart Router will play a key role in Telefónica Germany’s converged network infrastructure. The 8665 is a 900 Gbps full duplex IP/MPLS router that supports high-density 1G/10G aggregation and 100G connectivity, with future scalability to 3 Tbps. Ideal for large aggregation and RNC/S-GW sites, the 8665 is unmatched in power, space, and cost efficiency. The 8665 is optimized for LTE-A applications, supports SDN-enabled future network architectures, and leverages a unique, state-of-the art design that delivers the interface density, throughput, and cost effectiveness to meet the needs of fast growing mobility and data services while maintaining high quality for low latency voice traffic.
“We are pleased to extend our long-standing global relationship with Telefónica as we help Telefónica Germany maximize the full value of their integrated infrastructure with best-in-class mobile backhaul solutions and world-class support,” said Tarcisio Ribeiro, Executive Vice President, Global Sales, Coriant. “Powerful mobile devices and bandwidth-intensive applications are constantly reshaping the connectivity demands of today’s consumer and business customers. Our Smart Router products are designed to help service providers like Telefónica Germany keep pace with dynamic traffic demands and rapidly introduce new high-value service offerings for their customers.”
