Telenor Joins OSPT Alliance to Promote Open Contactless Standards

6 May 2015 OSPT™ Alliance, an international association which provides an open standard for secure transit fare collection solutions, today announces that global mobile network operator (MNO), Telenor, has joined the organization as an Associate Member.

Telenor, which provides tele, data and media services in the Nordics, Central and Eastern Europe and Asia, will contribute to the work of OSPT Alliance’s recently established Host Card Emulation (HCE) Working Group due to its ongoing work in contactless card emulation.

Arne Munch-Ellingsen, Senior Research Scientist at Telenor, comments: “At Telenor, we believe that in order for the mobile ecosystem to grow and evolve in a sustainable and interoperable manner, it is crucial that it is based on open standards. OSPT Alliance’s CIPURSE™ standard is a very good example of a strong open platform. Through our membership we hope to promote open contactless card standards and contribute to their evolution in the SIM market.”

OSPT Alliance’s Executive Director, Laurent Cremer, adds: “We are delighted to welcome Telenor to the alliance. The CIPURSE open standard provides a comprehensive solution for MNOs to support multi-application schemes, over-the-air application management and interaction with mobile wallet applications. Due to its open platform structure, CIPURSE can be treated as a link enabling a seamless convergence between closed-loop public transport, AFC applications and MNO-related infrastructures.

“Whilst transport ticketing remains our core priority, we are excited to see CIPURSE gaining traction in the wider mobile ecosystem and Telenor, as one of the world’s largest mobile network operators, brings significant experience and a global reach that will be an asset to the alliance. We look with interest to its participation in our HCE Working Group.”

CIPURSE offers an advanced foundation for developing highly secure, interoperable and flexible fare collection solutions. The OSPT Alliance recently published its free-to-download white paper, ‘Mobile Network Operators Demanding Open Standards‘. The paper details the unique benefits that the CIPURSE™ open standard brings to MNOs.
