Online shopping scams do not stop at just mobile commerce. Fraudsters are creating fake websites to dupe consumers into giving away account or personally identifiable information. This modus operandi involves scammers pretending to be legitimate online sellers within seemingly authentic but counterfeit online sites. Consumers find these sites in web searches or in social media ads and click through to bogus marketplaces, which look legitimate to the point of including a number of positive product reviews to spur the consumer into a transaction.
