Achieving Broadcast Quality for OTT Video:

Thomson Provides Thought Leadership at Streaming Media Europe

RENNES, France — Oct. 14, 2011 — Thomson Video Networks announced today that it is a major sponsor of the Streaming Media Europe event, held at London’s Olympia Conference Centre Oct. 18-19.

Alain Pellen, Thomson Video Networks marketing director of IPTV and Web TV solutions, will address the Streaming Media Europe conference on the subject of “Achieving Broadcast Quality for Over-the-Top (OTT) Video” at 12:15 p.m. on Wed., Oct. 19.

As OTT video moves toward becoming a mainstream viewing format, increased emphasis is being placed on achieving broadcast quality to match viewer expectations created over decades of conventional television services. Pellen’s presentation will describe how to achieve reliable OTT service with the right quality of pictures and associated functions such as subtitling and audio description. With a full high-quality service now achievable, OTT will emerge from its tech-savvy niche and reach out to all viewers.

Thomson Video Networks’ Are Olafsen will also participate in a roundtable session entitled “Over-the-Top Video in Pioneer Land” at 11:45 a.m. on Wed., Oct. 19. This session explores the experiences of leading innovators in OTT services in Northern Europe.

During the event, Thomson Video Networks will showcase its flagship ViBE VS7000 video streaming platform, which is nominated as a finalist in the transcoding solution category for the 2011 Streaming Media Reader’s Choice Awards. Designed for convergent media applications such as Web TV and OTT services delivery, traditional IPTV, and cable delivery, the ViBE VS7000 offers outstanding video quality through a new innovative compression engine that combines all major audio/video codecs and the latest adaptive streaming formats.
