Abu Dhabi, 10th October 2010: As part of growing its business in the Asia Pacific region, Thuraya has signed a new service provider agreement in Taiwan with Chunghwa Telecom. According to the agreement, Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan’s largest telecommunication operator will cooperate with Thuraya to provide the mobile satellite operator’s services in Taiwan and the neighboring region.
The main market segments that Chunghwa Telecom will focus on will be the disaster prevention and restoration, maritime and global travelers who are key customers of mobile satellite services.
From Thuraya’s growing portfolio of products, Chunghwa Telecom will promote the world’s toughest satellite phone, Thuraya XT and a multi-communication specialised maritime solution, Thuraya Marine. These products will benefit the emergency services and maritime sector that depend on satellite communications when there is limited access to terrestrial networks.
“Partnering with Chunghwa Telecom to extend Thuraya services to the Taiwanese market will enable several market segments to communicate reliably. We look forward to providing our maritime and voice services through robust solutions that are supported by a world-class network that covers Taiwan and the surrounding areas including the waterways,” said Thuraya’s Chief Technology Officer, Mr. Ali Al Mazrooei.
He also added that Thuraya’s products which are user-friendly, ergonomic and affordable will facilitate communications in Taiwan regardless of location.
On a similar note Chang Ching-Tsung, Managing Director of Satellite Department of Chunghwa Telecom said, “Thuraya’s offerings are an ideal communications partner for customers in Taiwan as they are modern. People who require mobile satellite services at sea or on land can easily benefit from Thuraya’s products which we expect will roll out rapidly.”
He also added that government agencies and shipping companies will be the main customers of Thuraya as an enhanced communication tool.
