Orange Power Wellies highlighted as one of the year’s top 50 innovations

LONDON, 18 November 2010. Oranges innovative eco-mobile phone charging prototype, the Orange Power Wellies, have been named by Time magazine as one of the 50 Best Inventions of 2010.

Created in collaboration with renewable energy experts GotWind, the Orange Power Wellies use a unique power generating sole that converts heat from your feet into an electrical current. Twelve hours of walking charges a mobile phone for an hour and the prototype was showcased onsite at the Glastonbury Festival where Orange is the Official Communications Partner.

Stuart Jackson, Orange UK said: We are delighted and proud that our Orange Power Wellies have been recognised by Time Magazine, the worlds largest weekly news publication, as one of the 50 Best Inventions of 2010. It’s a fantastic accolade from such a respected title.

Innovation is at the heart of Orange – it always has been and always will be. Whether through pioneering research into green mobile technology, or enabling our customers to access whatever they want wherever they are, we will always be looking to lead the way in developing exciting new products and services that make a difference to people’s lives.

The Orange Power Wellies are the latest innovation in the companys bid to find alternative sustainable and eco-friendly mobile phone charging technologies. Previous projects have included the Recharge Pod powered by wind and solar energy, Dance Charger, that drew upon kinetic energy created by dancing, and the Orange Power Pump, which uses the energy created from a traditional foot pump and converts it into electricity.
