Timico invests six-figure sum to upgrade core network

New 10Gb link into Manchester provides enhanced geographically diverse circuits for both DIA and PWAN customers

8 September 2014 – Timico, the business internet, hosting and communications service provider, has made a significant enhancement to its core network by investing a six-figure sum in a new diversely-routed 10Gb pipe into Manchester.

Timico, which has offices in London, Newark, Milton Keynes and Fareham, has invested in the latest host link to improve the geographical diversity of its core network, providing further interconnect opportunities with Tier 1 operators and enhanced resiliency.

With Manchester increasingly being dubbed the UK’s ‘second city’ thanks to significant investment, economic stability and the arrival of big-name corporations such as the BBC, business opportunities in the North West are plentiful. A recent survey found that companies are flocking to Manchester city centre, with office space take-up almost double the quarterly average[1], making demand for reliable and resilient business connectivity stronger than ever.

Andrew Fox, Director of Managed Networks & Connectivity at Timico, said: “Timico has previously been reliant on providing circuits in and out of London but with MaNAP as well as LONAP access now on our network, customers based in the North West can take advantage of their circuits being backhauled into Manchester rather than London, reducing their costs and providing them with a more diverse choice of network carrier options.

“This significant investment adds to Timico’s already renowned PWAN solution, and combined with existing colocation and UC propositions, Timico customers can be excited about what our enhanced network will bring to the table.”

The upgrade is part of a wider plan to invest in Timico’s national business grade network, including the addition of further local Points of Presence (PoPs) to complement the on-net locations already available across the south of England.

The company’s growth strategy also includes the development of a core Metro NODE network up and down the country, with plans to activate a Manchester PoP in the future.

Andrew continued: “The continued investment in our core network provides Timico customers with further improvements to their connectivity options. Customers now have the ability to terminate circuits onto the new host link, connecting directly into the Timico core and taking advantage of cost effective Ethernet circuits. The new 10Gb host link provides customers with the option of geographically diverse Direct Internet Access circuits (DIA) as well as incorporating a greater level of resiliency into their Private Wide Area Network (PWAN).”

The new Manchester connection will go live in September. For more information about Timico’s full range of products and services, please visit www.timico.co.uk
