TNO DSL Seminar 2013 to highlight award-winning hybrid fibre-copper solution G.fast

World’s leading DSL event announces developments to its speaker line-up as DSL technology wins prestigious industry award

Delft, The Netherlands, 2 April 2013G.fast, the technology that provides a hybrid fibre-copper solution to achieve gigabit speeds over a copper infrastructure, is set to be one of the hot topics at the TNO DSL Seminar. Research conducted by a European consortium on G.fast technology was recently awarded the CELTIC Excellence Award in Gold as the solution continues to drive the evolution of network access. As industry-leading experts are confirmed to speak, and join the already impressive line-up, the discussion on the future of DSL and next generation broadband welcomes world-wide representatives from a breadth of telecoms companies at the three-day Seminar, from 17-19 June 2013.

The Seminar will include one full day dedicated to the regulatory implications of DSL developments, which has proved to be an extremely popular subject in previous years. Guest speakers from Comreg, RTR, Deutsche Telekom, Belgacom, PT Luxembourg, Swisscom and KPN have all been confirmed, bringing a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the event.

Dr. Marc Goldburg, Executive Vice President and CTO of ASSIA, a leading broadband solutions provider which is sponsoring the event again this year, says: “ASSIA’s solutions continue to drive the robust and successful evolution of DSL technology; we are delighted to be part of an event that furthers this development. For a fifth year running, the TNO DSL Seminar provides a platform for service providers, operators, regulators and many more to benefit from each other’s understanding and advancements in the field.”

TNO has also welcomed a number of high-profile telecommunications specialist sponsors to the seminar, including Adtran, Alcatel-Lucent, ASSIA, AVM, Ikanos, Iskratel, SPC and additionally the city of The Hague. The promise of industry-leading debates and discussions has attracted a huge amount of interest, and with only a short while before the early-bird discount runs out, attendee spaces at the event are filling up rapidly.

Arun Hiremath, Director of Marketing at event sponsor, Ikanos, comments: “With the capability of delivering 100Mbps VDSL throughput, and increasing carrier interest, Vectoring deployment is on a rapid rise.  Meanwhile, there has been tremendous progress in technology and standards to push rates above 1Gbps over existing copper lines. Ikanos is pleased to be part of this development. Our involvement and contributions highlight Ikanos’ commitment to the advancement of broadband technologies. There is an impressive line-up of industry-leaders speaking at this year’s TNO event, which we’re excited to be a part of.”

The DSL Seminar brings together senior players and technology experts from operators, vendors, researchers, regulatory authorities and businesses, allowing for dynamic discussion and an in-depth technical update on the challenges and developments in DSL. The Seminar invites operators to share their experiences of DSL to better understand how the technology will continue to move forward.

“We are delighted to be fuelling the debate on the future of DSL,” said Teun van der Veen, Senior Consultant at TNO. “With consumer demand ever increasing, we do not see the technology advances slowing any time soon, and we are eager to discover the ways in which we can push forward the next generation in global broadband. With new technologies such as vectoring and G.fast, the old telephony wiring is used in ways that we never imagined. DSL continues to promise a thriving future and we want to explore all the possibilities available.”

The DSL Seminar 2013 will be held from 17-19 June 2013. Located in the picturesque Carlton Beach Hotel, Scheveningen, and including a guided tour through the seaside resort; a robust programme of diverse discussions is set to make this fifth DSL Seminar a must-attend event for anyone in the DSL ecosystem.
