Singapore, 1 June 2011 – Digital Matters and Music Matters, the mega event in the Asian digital entertainment business calendar, concluded with unique dialogue and insight into the transformation that digital entertainment services are undergoing as Asian consumers’ digital consumption of media and entertainment increases.

For the first time, Digital Matters and Music Matters created a one stop access point for delegates to gain insight into the Asian music and digital entertainment business.  176 speakers, over 100 media, 35 sponsors, 20 official media partners, 60 industry associations created the unique vibe as participants shared success stories, launched new services and discussed new collaborations over four days.

Produced in association with CASBAA, Digital Matters included headlining keynotes and dynamic addresses from Robert Tercek, Google, HP, Motion Picture Association, Synovate, Warner Music Group and Akamai Technologies.  Breakthrough online entertainment strategies, moving forward with social media and deeper digital advertising engagement were key themes for the dialogue that unfolded.  The growing influence of cloud-based services on the digital entertainment business model, and best practice for brand and content strategies for connected media were thrashed out.

The 6th Music Matters programme included even more of the uniques that only Music Matters delivers.  More performing artist interviews, more 1-on-1 insight from global leaders and more senior executives discussing innovative business models for digital transformation of music and entertainment services.  The hit parade of senior executive speakers on the Music Matters stage included Luke Wood, Steve Lillywhite, Ralph Simon, Ted Cohen, Rob Lewis, Ty Roberts, Rob Wells, Jeff Miyahara, Michael Paull and more.   Music Matters 2011 features a total of six performing artists, including Imogen Heap, Kreva, Sandhy Sondhoro, Masia One, Pavlo and Simple Plan.  The acoustic performance by Simple Plan was a sensational closing performance that rocked the Ritz-Carlton, Millennia.

“Asian online entertainment is in a dynamic period as the explosion of social media, cloud-based services and more connectivity of more devices change the way Asian consumers are entertained.  Digital Matters and Music Matters are a unique platform that bring together delegates from global leaders to Asian start ups to collaborate and create services,” said Jasper Donat, Co-Founder of Branded Ltd. and President of Music Matters.  “2011 was a landmark year with the inaugural Digital Matters synergised with the 6th Music Matters and creating more value for the digital entertainment influencers attending the events.”

The impact and dialogue of Digital Matters and Music Matters was not only within the room, but also reached the Twitterverse and social media community globally.  Over 4,000 people downloaded the app and interacted with the conference comments in real time with their posts, messages and tweets.  Moderators referred to the questions submitted on the Twitter feed to put the speakers on the spot, adding a new level of engagement and buzz to the event.  The top 10 tweeters attending Digital Matters and Music Matters reached a cumulative 117,651 followers, and tweets from celebrity personalities such as Imogen Heap, Dominic Lau and Sandhy Sondoro added to the reach exponentially.

In 2011, Music Matters continued to embrace the ability of music to raise funds and to make a difference for people in need.  The bands and artists performing at Music Matters Live with HP music festival collectively recorded a track in aid of Japan disaster relief efforts.  Music Matters for Japan released the version of Coldplay’s hit, Fix You, as recorded by over 40 bands and artists.  The Fix You track was previewed at Music Matters and will soon be launched globally by Universal Music with proceeds from the sale of the track donated to Red Cross Japan and Peace Boat.

The four-day conference concluded with a three-day music festival, 26 – 28 May.  Music Matters Live with HP was held at numerous venues in Clarke Quay, including a main stage at the fountain square, where thousands of music executives and music fans were entertained with performances by 42 bands from 18 countries performing at 7 venues for 3 nights.

Bands like Simple Plan (Canada), These Kids Wear Crowns (Canada), Pentagram (India), Evaline (USA), Kreva (Japan), The Fairchilds (France), The Jezabels (Australia) and home-grown talents such as Typewriter, 53A and Cheating Sons played to crowds of ecstatic fans and Indie-music lovers at the main stage, Lunar, Forbidden City, Beer Market, Se7ven Inch, Yello Jello and Arena at Clarke Quay, further fuelling Singapore’s growing live music scene.
