TSF – Emergency deployment to Madagascar in response to Cyclone Giovanna

Responding to the 3rd category cyclone Giovanna which swept Madagascar Island today, Télécoms Sans Frontières is dispatching an emergency team from its international headquarters.

TSF will arrive in Saint Denis de la Réunion before its immediate transfer to Madagascar. TSF experts are bringing with them all the satellite equipment necessary to establish 6 crisis centres for humanitarian workers and to open 12 phone lines for the affected population: broadband data transmission, itinerant telecommunication centre, satellite phone lines…

Local telecom operators, with whom TSF is in constant relation, have signalled that more than 200 telecommunication stations are already out of order.

The cyclone hit the Eastern coast of the island, in Brickaville (Ampasimanolotra) South Toamasina.
Moreover, a second tropical storm is expected in the coming hours.
