TTG Invests in Next Generation of UK Radio Engineers with Expanded Apprenticeship Programme

Global communications specialist TTG is strengthening its commitment to developing new British engineering talent

DERBY (11 JULY 2011) –  Team Telecom Group (TTG) is strengthening its investment in its Apprenticeship programme, with Alex Martinez-Villar becoming the second Apprentice to join AirRadio, and the fifth to be recruited across the Group as a whole.

Launched in 2009, the TTG Apprenticeship programme is focused on developing the next generation of radio communications engineers.   Combining academic qualifications with hands on experience, the success of the programme has led to its continued expansion, enabling TTG to train and develop new British talent to support its global operations.

The programme now sees a yearly recruitment of apprentices, with each apprentice benefiting from the support of an individual mentor to offer guidance on all aspects of development and training.

Alex’s two-year Apprenticeship will see him study for a BTEC Diploma in Mechanical Engineering at Uxbridge College, combined with work-based learning with the AirRadio Operations team based at Gatwick.

Commenting on his new Apprenticeship Alex says: “My new role offers me the chance to get a strong start to my career, providing me with a lot of hands on experience and quality training at a well respected company.  Not only will I achieve relevant qualifications, but I hope to be able to stay on at AirRadio full time after I complete my Apprenticeship, giving me the chance to apply the skills I have learned.”

During his AirRadio Apprenticeship Alex will have the opportunity to learn about and experience working with the company’s full product portfolio, including analogue and digital trunk radio systems and cellular voice and data applications. In addition, he will work alongside AirRadio’s Operational team installing and maintaining customer equipment, and learning about design, development and project management in locations across the UK, while also having the chance to work in commercial areas such as Sales, Marketing and Finance.

Mike Norfield, CEO of TTG, adds: “The UK is a world leader in radio communications, and we want to ensure it stays that way, so developing and nurturing the next generation of talent is vital.  Our Apprenticeship Programme has been specifically designed to give each Apprentice the chance to not only gain a recognised academic qualification, but also to work with some of the sector’s most respected engineers on projects everywhere from Blackpool to Bontang in Indonesia.

“Our Apprenticeships are challenging, but the knowledge and experience they offer provides the basis of a strong and varied career.  We are already seeing the success of the programme, with our Apprentices achieving some fantastic results and I am confident Alex will quickly make his mark at AirRadio.”

Applications for future Apprenticeships can be made via the TTG website – www.teamtelecomgroup.com or call 01332 375596.
