UAE-IX supports first Middle East Peering Forum in Dubai

Frankfurt/Main and Dubai, 05 February 2013 – The first Middle East Peering Forum (MPF) will take place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), on 7 March 2013. UAE-IX, the carrier-neutral Internet exchange point (IXP) in the Middle East managed by DE-CIX Management GmbH in Frankfurt, is one of MPF’s main supporters. The event is aimed at peering coordinators around the world but has a special focus on peering experts from the Middle East. Public peering is the exchange of IP-based data traffic between Internet service providers through Internet exchange points like DE-CIX in Frankfurt or UAE-IX in Dubai.

“In October 2012, we put the UAE-IX Internet exchange in operation”, says Harald Summa, CEO of DE-CIX, “because we are convinced that, in the Middle East – a bridge between Europe and Asia – an efficient digital infrastructure and an agile Internet economy can develop.  The fact that we were able to interconnect more than ten regional and international service providers in the first eight weeks confirms this. By supporting the first Middle East Peering Forum, we want to continue to advance this trend. Our aim is to bring regional and international market participants together to make it possible to take the next steps in setting the course for a booming Internet economy in the Middle East.”

The Middle East Peering Forum is a platform for peering coordinators, IXP operators and other industry representatives to share technical knowledge and best practices, discuss industry trends and developments and provide networking opportunities to initiate new peering arrangements or enhance existing ones. The MPF will take place on 7 March 2013 during the MENOG Conference (5 -14 March 2013) in Dubai.
