UBIQUISYS NAMED NUMBER ONE FEMTOCELL VENDOR BY ABI RESEARCH

by david.nunes

London, 31st August 2010 – Ubiquisys, the leading provider of 3G
femtocells, has been named the number one femtocell vendor for the third
consecutive year in an independent study by ABI Research. The
announcement reflects a hugely successful year which has seen Ubiquisys
drive femtocells below the $100 price-point and achieve mass-scale
deployments with SOFTBANK MOBILE in Japan and SFR in France.

The ABI Research Femtocell Equipment Vendor Matrix is designed to give a
clear understanding of vendors’ positions within the market by assessing
performance in the vital areas of “innovation” and “implementation”.

Under “innovation” ABI Research examined product cost, interference
mitigation techniques, the presence of a standards-compliant network
interface and support for multiple form factors, as well as the vendor’s
enterprise and metro femto capabilities. Ubiquisys scored strongly in
all areas, with the transformation from a box vendor to femtocell
software supplier providing a blueprint for the world’s first sub $100
femtocells a particular highlight. The company’s work with Public
Wireless on the world’s first metro femto was also commended.

Under “implementation,” the following criteria were assessed: the
existence of an end-to-end solution capability, the vendor’s RFP, trial
and rollout activity, its ability to scale and commoditize quickly, its
overall financial and organizational health, silicon and software
strategies and partnerships. Again, Ubiquisys scored highly in all
areas, in particular for its role in the SOFTBANK MOBILE free femtocell
offering.

“Ubiquisys retains its position as the leading femtocell access point
vendor for the third year running,” said Aditya Kaul, ABI Research
practice director. “The company has focused on its core competence and
has transformed itself from a box vendor to a femto software engine
supplier. Ubiquisys is the driving force behind Softbank’s free
femtocell offering, and enabled the world’s first metro femtocell from
Public Wireless.”

“While other specialist vendors have slipped down the rankings in this
year’s survey, Ubiquisys continues to go from strength to strength,”
said Chris Gilbert, CEO of Ubiquisys. “The company now leads a chasing
pack of major infrastructure vendors, and we expect to further cement
our position in the next twelve months, with more commercial deployments
and a range of innovative femtocell devices.”
