The UKTI’s Technology World in partnership with UK NanoForum event showcases the best of UK science and technology – enabling industry and academia to present their products, services and expertise to an unrivalled international audience. This year the event comprises three programmes: energy & environment, digital media and nanotechnology.

Exhibits

See Geneco’s ‘Bio-Bug’ car running entirely on methane gas generated during a sewage treatment process, and the Bloodhound Project, which is developing a car to reach the 1,000mph land speed record. A dedicated pavilion for large research facilities will include the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy (CCFE), which is developing nuclear fusion as a major new form of clean energy, ITER – the world’s largest tokamak – and the Square Kilometre Array, a global project to design and build a new generation radio telescope.

Conference

More than 60 speakers from market-leading organisations, including former IBM EMEA chairman Larry Hirst, are attending the conference.  Roger Mosely – the BBC’s director of London 2012, who is overseeing the BBC’s coverage of the London Olympics – will be delivering a keynote speech. Other speakers include Alex Gray, senior product marketing manager at Microsoft, David Bott, director of innovation programmes at the Technology Strategy Board, and Chris Rider, director of Cambridge Integrated Knowledge Centre at Cambridge University. Speakers representing each programme theme – energy & environment, digital media and nanotechnology – will be discussing topics such as ‘Sustainable cities’, ‘The rise of social and casual gaming’ and ‘Formulating solutions with nanomaterials’.

Delegates

More than 2,000 attendees from 750 companies will be visiting the event, including representatives from Ericsson, Fujitsu and China Unicom, BP, BAE Systems, Microsoft, Procter & Gamble, BASF, Vodafone, Rusnano and Nokia. More than 3,000 face-to-face meetings are expected to take place during the two days – equating to about 175 meetings every hour.

Media Centre

There will be a media centre available for journalists, which features an open-plan desk area with wireless connections, event programmes and general information available. Private areas for calls/interviews will also have aesthetic backdrops to support filming.

Technology World in partnership with UK NanoForum – comprising 3,000 face-to-face meetings, an exhibition, Business Innovation Awards, a workshop programme and a conference featuring more than 60 speakers – has grown substantially since last year, when Technology World ’09 and UK NanoForum ’09 were separate events. It provides opportunities for business-to-business collaboration, ensuring that companies of all sizes from SMEs to large corporations have the chance to network and learn from both UK and international companies. More than 75% of last year’s exhibitors are expected to win new business as direct result of attending Technology World or UK NanoForum.
