Virgin Media talent is recognised and rewarded by SCTE bursaries

The SCTE (Society for Broadband Professionals) has confirmed that two of Virgin Media’s cable engineers are the proud recipients of its FTTH Conference 2013 bursary. This bursary allows SCTE members, who would otherwise be unable to go to the event organised by the FTTH Council Europe, the opportunity to benefit from attending the show held at London’s ExCeL centre from 20-21 February. This bursary, a result of the long-standing relationship between the FTTH Council Europe and the SCTE, demonstrates the benefits of SCTE membership by encouraging engineers in their careers.

The SCTE regularly awards bursaries to members who might benefit from attending specific trade shows or conferences in the broadband industry, providing technical congress/exhibition tickets, economy flights from anywhere in Europe and hotel accommodation to successful candidates. Supported by the FTTH Council Europe and SCTE, the FTTH bursary gives talented engineers the opportunity to meet and experience the environment of one of the world’s largest fibre events.

Dr. Roger Blakeway, PhD, CEng FIEE, FSCTE, President of the SCTE, commented: “We are proud to support our members at the SCTE and provide them with an opportunity they deserve. We are looking forward to continuing to work with the FTTH Council Europe to deliver a unique benefit to all our members.  This is a clear example of the extra mile the SCTE will go to strive for Broadband excellence.”

The two deserving winners of the 2013 bursaries are Matt Yarwood, Access and Wireless Engineer and Mark Burns, Hybrid Fibre/Coax (HFC) Architect at Virgin Media. Members of the SCTE can also apply for bursaries for other high-profile industry exhibitions, granting them access to the event along with their travel and hotel costs. These include the FTTH Conference 2013, ANGA COM (Germany) and IBC (The Netherlands) events. Applications for all bursaries this year are now closed, but SCTE members planning ahead to 2014 may submit a 250-word submission on why they should benefit from the SCTE’s support to the offices at office@thescte.eu.

The SCTE is exhibiting at the FTTH Conference 2013, London ExCeL on 20-21 February, and can be found in the Partner Area on booth D1
