Vodafone Hutchison Australia Selects Cisco to Accelerate the Deployment of Its 4G LTE Network

SYDNEY – May 7, 2013 – Cisco announced today that it has been selected by Vodafone Hutchison Australia to accelerate deployment of VHA’s 4G long-term evolution (LTE) network with the Cisco® ASR 5500 as the mobile multimedia core platform.  VHA is in the midst of transforming how it meets the changing demands of the Australian consumer with the planned roll-out of the Vodafone 4G network, scheduled to launch mid-year.

The Cisco ASR 5500 will be the foundation of VHA’s Evolve Packet Core (EPC). With the ASR 5500’s ability to simplify capacity and traffic management and provide proactive, predictive monitoring and management, VHA gains the increased network efficiency and intelligence required to provide an optimal experience for Vodafone 4G customers. Cisco’s professional services team will also work closely with VHA to help ensure the solution is planned, designed, tested and implemented quickly and efficiently.

The mobile Internet is predicted to grow 13-fold globally between 2012 and 2017[1] with the addition of billions of connections between people, devices and objects (the ‘Internet of Everything‘).  The Cisco ASR 5500 platform was developed to provide mobile telecommunication providers with greater access to the business and network analytics capabilities of historical and real-time policy decisions in order to deliver more personalised mobile services to customers.

With the dramatic rise in mobile smart devices, the increasing use of next-generation applications, and the rise in connections in the Internet of Everything, mobile operators need platforms to meet customer demand.  The Cisco ASR 5500 is the first mobile platform designed to scale to terabit performance and tens of millions of sessions and support the transaction rates required to address the needs of Vodafone’s new 4G network.  The capabilities of the Cisco ASR 5500 platform have been developed to address the anticipated increase in performance requirements of next generation networks.

VHA joins over 210 other service providers around the world in taking advantage of the flexibility provided by the Cisco ASR 5000 Series platform to meet the dynamic and ever-evolving demands of the mobile Internet. In addition, VHA is implementing the Cisco 7613 mobile security gateway as part of its Enhanced Packet Core solution.
