Volta launches state of the art, ultra-low latency data centre at Great Sutton Street, London EC1
London, 18th April 2012: Volta, the specialist provider of data centres to the financial, media and content industries, has revealed plans for its first data centre in Central London. The data centre, which will be based in the iconic former Reuters building in Great Sutton Street EC1, is ideally located in close proximity to the City and Silicon Roundabout to house businesses utilising latency-sensitive services.
Backed by all equity funding from funds managed by Apollo Global Management, LLC’s (NYSE: APO) real estate group, Apollo Global Real Estate Management and Glebe London Limited Partnership, Volta takes ownership of the site in June 2012. The data centre will be fully operational from January 2013 following a complete refurbishment where the latest state of the art equipment will be installed. Great Sutton Street will offer flexible data centre space tailored to individual business needs including co-location and private caged data suite options.
The 8,500 m² stand-alone data centre will have the most resilient data centre power supply available in Central London being connected to two 33kv substations. In addition, the building also benefits from already having a number of telecommunication providers including Colt, Verizon, C&W, BT, AboveNet, EU networks and Geo Networks, allowing potential customers immediate access to a wide range of the world’s leading connectivity services.
Volta was formed by industry veterans Matthew Dent, former group property director and deputy CEO at Global Switch, Julian King, former Global Switch commercial director and Ian Charles Wright, former Chairman of ICW Power and former Non Executive Director at HPF.
Matthew Dent, Chief Executive of Volta said, “The opportunity to invest in continuing the legacy of the Great Sutton Street data centre building, which has provided services since 1986, is an exciting prospect. We will completely refurbish the building, installing the latest and most energy efficient equipment. This unique opportunity will provide a much needed service to the financial, media and content industries of Central London.”
“Great Sutton Street is a unique proposition, combining the most resilient power supply available to a central London datacentre with access to world leading carriers” said Julian King, Commercial Director of Volta. “The location of Great Sutton Street and range of carriers makes us a compelling choice for financial and media companies requiring data centre space, offering proximity hosting and ultra-low latency in Central London.”
Ian Charles Wright, Chief Technical Officer commented “This secure building will represent the latest engineering technology coupled with remarkably low PUE”.
