Volta welcomes SSE Telecoms’ ‘LIGHTNOW’ network at its central London data centre

SSE Telecoms’ LIGHTNOW high capacity networking service now available at Volta, adding customer choice and service mobility

London, 28 April 2014 – Volta Data Centres, the specialist provider of data centres to the financial, media and content industries, today announced that SSE Telecoms, the UK’s leading provider of network infrastructure and data centre services and part of the SSE Group, has added Volta to its LIGHTNOW high-capacity, ultra-resilient optical networking service.

Located in close proximity to the City of London, Volta caters to the requirements of latency-sensitive users in the financial services industry, TechCity-based technology firms and the media industry. One of the most resilient facilities in central London, Volta’s power and connectivity infrastructures are second to none, benefitting from a 33kV diverse power supply and the availability of a range of Tier 1 carriers with their own diverse fibre connectivity to the building.

SSE Telecoms specialises in delivering ultra-high capacity connectivity services to a variety of organisations, with its new LIGHTNOW service providing Volta customers with10Gb Ethernet wavelength connectivity to 20 London data centres, at sub-1ms latency. The introduction of LIGHTNOW further enhances the connectivity choices available to SSE’s customers and partners,  and at one week lead time, helps customers respond quickly to rapidly evolving and ad-hoc project requirements. LIGHTNOW forms the second stage of the expansion of SSE Telecoms’ national telecoms network, dubbed Project Edge.

Matthew Dent, CEO of Volta commented: “We are excited about Volta’s inclusion in SSE Telecoms’ LIGHTNOW network. High bandwidth, low latency Ethernet connectivity between data centres is a critical requirement for today’s IT managers. Our presence on the LIGHTNOW network ensures that Volta customers enjoy best in class optical wavelength connectivity to other facilities, while SSE Telecoms’ customers now have access to central London’s’ most resilient and well-connected facility.

Chris Jagusz, managing director of SSE Telecoms, said:  “The new LIGHTNOW service brings high availability, high performance optical network solutions to data centre users who need to be able to respond quickly to changing customer and internal requirements.  We find that smart data centre customers often distribute their server, storage and communication estates between data centres, as well as requiring connections to hosted services provided by third parties.”
