Openwave Continues Momentum for Traffic Management Solutions Designed to Optimise Networks in Real-Time

London, UK – 11 March 2011 Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV), a global software innovator delivering context-aware mediation and messaging solutions, today announced that  Wataniya Telecom Maldives,  a privately owned operator in the Maldives, has selected Openwave® Integra, a  next generation traffic mediation and application policy management solution, Openwave® Media Optimiser, an intelligent, content and context-aware media optimisation solution that works to automatically trigger optimisation when the network reaches pre-determined thresholds and Openwave® Web Optimiser, a solution that increases data transfer rates over wireless data networks. These traffic management solutions are designed to allow Wataniya to efficiently optimise web and video content over its 3G network with the goal of improving the subscriber experience and ultimately saving on bandwidth and CAPEX.

“Having the ability to offer our subscribers a superior mobile internet experience while making the most efficient use of our network resources is among the highest in importance to Wataniya,” said Mr. Saffiyyudeen Rasheed, Head of Core Networks, Wataniya Telecom Maldives. “We believe Integra, Media Optimizer and Web Optimizer’s intelligent features will enable us to optimize web and video at the right network thresholds to provide an overall improved subscriber experience supporting our mandate to offer Maldivian subscribers the best user experience versus our competitors.”

“Data traffic, especially video, has grown rapidly in emerging regions ,” said John Giere, senior vice president of products and marketing, Openwave. “We believe that Integra, Media Optimiser and Web Optimiser will play essential roles in enabling greater network efficiencies for Wataniya by enabling them with intelligent optimisation tools that will help them lower TCO while providing an overall superior quality mobile internet experience for their subscribers. We look forward to providing Wataniya outstanding products and support.”

Integra

Integra is the core platform upon which the Openwave portfolio of service is built. The workflow engine orchestrates a set of mobile internet services that are driven by a rich policy-rules engine, allowing each transaction to be processed based on factors including profiles, device capabilities, content and network type. As traffic increases, Integra can help Wataniya rapidly scale to deploy new mobile data services across converging access networks and devices.

Media Optimiser

Media Optimiser provides mobile network operators with the capability to pre-determine automated actions to be taken as soon the mobile network reaches certain thresholds. These actions are intelligently enabled based on real time network conditions, working to ensure that the video viewing experience of the subscribers is maintained even during times of peak network usage. Media Optimiser is expected to help Wataniya to significantly lower the operator’s total cost of ownership (TCO) by reducing transmission requirements up to 40% when required by network conditions and also improve the mobile video viewing experience for subscribers, leading to higher average revenue per user (ARPU).

Web Optimiser

Web Optimiser uses compression, caching and transcoding techniques to increase data transfer rates over wireless data networks while decreasing the amount of traffic flowing over the network. It can deliver Wataniya subscribers faster browsing speeds and more immediate access to content while conserving valuable bandwidth.
