World Teleport Association Launches Teleport Certification Program
Beta Customers include du, Elara Comunicaciones, GlobalSat and The Talia Group

(September 14, 2015 – New York City) – The World Teleport Association (WTA) on Saturday announced the launch of its Teleport Certification Program at a press briefing event at IBC 2015.

WTA’s Teleport Certification Program aims to serve both teleport operators and their customers by creating an objective, transparent, and internationally accepted method for teleport operators to document the quality of their operations for customers and strategic partners. It also aims to provide a means for customers to select teleport vendors delivering the price-performance level that is appropriate for their applications.

“This is the most important program WTA has introduced since the annual Satellite Operator Benchmarks survey, which measures teleport operator views of satellite operator commercial and operational practices,” said WTA executive director Robert Bell.  “Promoting excellence in business, operations and technology is a key part of our mission, and Certification has the potential to improve the performance of every teleport operator in the market.”

The launch follows two years of development by WTA and a volunteer committee made up of teleport, satellite and technology executives as well as representatives of end-user customers. Drafts of the Certification Standards have been posted on WTA’s website, for which WTA members have been invited to provide feedback.

WTA also announced the beta customers for the certification program, which include du, Elara Comunicaciones, GlobalSat and The Talia Group. These beta customers will be assisting WTA in preparing the Certification Program for market while also receiving Certification of their operations through the program. Additional beta spots are available for interested customers, but are limited. Interested customers are asked to email WTA Membership Director Randall Barney at rbarney@worldteleport.org.

The event, which took place at The Talia Group’s booth at IBC, featured a briefing by Robert Bell, an introduction to the beta customers participating in the Certification Program and a question-and-answer session with Jack Buechler, Vice President of the Talia Group.
