World’s First ‘Internet of Things’ Dedicated Cellular Network Operator, SIGFOX and Telit to Collaborate and Multiply the Number of Connected Devices

New Telit Module to Support Ultra Narrow Band (UNB), License-free Radio Technology for the SIGFOX Network

London, November 27, 2013 – Telit Wireless Solutions, a global provider of high-quality machine-to-machine (M2M) solutions, products and services and Toulouse, France based SIGFOX, the first operator of a cellular network fully dedicated to machine-to-machine (M2M) and Internet of Things (IoT) communications, today announced the companies are to collaborate to increase penetration of the Internet of Things (IoT). The solution is based on a completely new and unique cellular network, which is being rolled out worldwide. SIGFOX’s patented Ultra Narrow Band (UNB) technology, behind the company’s network makes it possible to operate on unlicensed frequency bands available worldwide and with fewer antennas. The long-range data transmission drastically reduces power-consumption and therefore carbon footprint and maintenance costs. Telit engages the collaboration by working with SIGFOX to develop and quickly bring to market M2M modules certified under the SIGFOX UNB network.

With existing connectivity solutions built primarily to address needs of high bandwidth devices, a large number of business cases and potential candidate users of the IoT find major limitations in pricing, energy consumption and complexity of implementation associated with traditional cellular systems. The SIGFOX network and accompanying Telit OEM module solve this by providing an out-of-the-box subscription-based low-throughput connectivity solution at lower prices, with lower energy consumption and leveraging very simple integration. The approach enables a larger global marketplace of connected solutions. By using the eco-friendly, robust, secure, and easy to use network, customers reduce their carbon footprint while benefiting from low prices over the entire connection chain.

“SIGFOX is glad to announce the collaboration with Telit, which will speed up the IoT market growth.” said Ludovic Le Moan, SIGFOX Chief Executive Officer. “This new Telit module combines existing Telit assets with SIGFOX connectivity to provide customers with a cost-effective and low energy consuming long range end-to-end connectivity solution in addition to the existing short range connectivity options, whereby customers can choose between different network connectivity solutions depending on their business or environmental constraints. This new module will benefit from our network rollout, as it will become simple and optimal to connect Telit powered objects.”

We are excited to contribute a product to this solution.  With so many devices unable to connect for cost and power reasons, SIGFOX is a real breakthrough for M2M,said Felix Marchal, Chief Product Officer at Telit Wireless Solutions. For the SIGFOX product we are leveraging our extensive experience in power-efficient modules for scalable networks and for battery-operated devices that can communicate in coverage areas of many square kilometers.

SIGFOX has rollout of its network in France, the Netherlands and Russia. It plans to extend coverage to over 60 countries within five years.

With over a decade of exclusive focus on M2M, reducing technical risk and shortening time to market for OEMs and integrators, Telit is the industry’s ONE STOP. ONE SHOP. We leverage M2M’s broadest portfolio in cellular, short range and positioning technologies paired with m2mAIR services covering application enablement as well as mobile network and internet/cloud sides of connectivity.
