ZTE Elastic Conductor solution assists China Mobile in implementing open source orchestrator OPEN-O candidate code demo

17 March 2016, Santa Clara, USA – ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, announced at the Open Networking Summit 2016, in Santa Clara, USA that it has successfully exhibited with China Mobile network functions virtualisation orchestrator (NFVO) candidate code use cases of OPEN-O; an open source orchestrator prototype system.

During this exhibition the companies showed their latest innovations in the network orchestration and monitoring fields. As one of the first supporters of China Mobile, ZTE has launched its Elastic Conductor solution, which was applied by OPEN-O systems and assisted China Mobile to help with the development of the NFVO demonstration. This demo has successfully docked with multi-vendor virtualised network functions (VNFs).

China Mobile has been building its next-generation network, NovoNet, since 2015. Open-O is the key component of NovoNet and implements NFV/software-defined networking (SDN) service orchestration and supervision. China Mobile showcased the OPEN-O system at the NFV summit in November 2015 and received a lot of industry attention. Most recently, The Linux Foundation and China Mobile announced a joint initiative of the OPEN-O project at MWC 2016.

ZTE’s Elastic Conductor solution is based on NFV/SDN and big data technologies. It aims to build an ElasticNet ‘brain’ and an open ability centre. ZTE’s Elastic Conductor orchestrator is based on open source architecture and compatible with the OPEN-O project. Therefore, ZTE has been selected by China Mobile as a partner to complete the joint development of an NFV orchestrator prototype. ZTE actively supports the OPEN-O project, which has been initiated by the Linux Foundation as an open source orchestration project, and is one of the most significant contributors to date.

Network orchestration occupies an important position in the network architecture as it is the core of network management and open functions. ZTE and its partners have a consistent understanding and vision in this field. The in-depth cooperation between ZTE and operator partners will significantly advance the progress of network orchestration.
