ZTE helps China Telecom complete commercial IPv6 test on 4G network

Successful test in Hunan province is key milestone for China Telecom’s plans for future 4G LTE deployment

10 July 2014, Shenzhen, China – ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment, network solutions and mobile devices, is pleased to help China Telecom successfully complete commercial testing for IPv6 capabilities on its mobile network in Hunan province, a key milestone in China Telecom’s plans for future 4G LTE deployment.

The comprehensive week-long test involved trial users and covered IPv4/IPv6 single- and dual-stack services, billing systems and backend IT infrastructure systems, demonstrating China Telecom’s 4G LTE network to be IPv6-ready. China Telecom’s 4G LTE network in Hunan province deploys ZTE’s industry-leading solutions including evolved node B, system architecture evolution gateway, mobility management entity, home subscriber service/3rd generation partnership project, authentication, authorization and accounting, high rate packet data (HRPD) serving gateway, computer graphics and electronic process classification framework/eHRPD.

As China Telecom rolls out 4G LTE services nationwide, IPv6 will help the operator manage the anticipated explosion in demand for new IP addresses. Becoming IPv6-ready is a key part of China Telecom’s plans for wider 4G LTE network deployments.

Since April, ZTE engineers have been collaborating with China Telecom to prepare for the IPv6 commercial test, developing test scenarios and solutions. ZTE helped China Telecom overcome complex engineering challenges including the large number of network interfaces and wide network coverage areas, while ensuring existing services on the live 4G LTE network are not disrupted.

This successful IPv6 test fully verified the IPv6/IPv4 dual-stack capabilities of China Telecom’s 4G LTE network in Hunan, laying a solid foundation for the operator’s plans for wider deployment of 4G and other next-generation services in the future.
