ZTE Pre-Loads Kineto’s Smart Wi-Fi Application on New Android Smartphones

Milpitas, Calif., August 9, 2011

Kineto Wireless, the key innovator and leading supplier of Smart Wi-Fi solutions for mobile operators, today announced it is working with ZTE to pre-load its Smart Wi-Fi Application onto select new Android-based ZTE smartphones.

The first ZTE Android smartphone with the application will be the Skate, coming soon in the UK. Kineto works closely with ZTE and a number of leading smartphone manufacturers to test, simplify and pre-load the Smart Wi-Fi Application.

“ZTE’s device strategy has always had our operator customers and their subscribers at the heart of it, and their requirements and requests drive our product development decisions,” said Wu Sa, director of Mobile Device Operations, ZTE UK. “Devices such as the ZTE Skate are proving very popular with both operators and consumers, and we’re happy to be working with Kineto to integrate Smart Wi-Fi into devices for carriers that want to take advantage of the benefits of UMA.”

With Smart Wi-Fi, mobile service providers are able to offer their subscribers improved indoor coverage using their existing Wi-Fi access points, encouraging the use of Wi-Fi and driving mobile data offload. Operators deploying Smart Wi-Fi have experienced a 25-50 percent reduction in churn from subscribers using the service and have found Smart Wi-Fi users consume 25 percent less data from the macro network.

ZTE is ranked fifth in IDC’s most recent “Worldwide Mobile Phone Tracker” and continues to challenge the market leaders in the handset market, with more than 80 million handsets expected to ship this year, up 60 million units from 2010.

“Smart Wi-Fi is continuing to win support from operators, smartphone manufacturers and consumers,” said Mark Powell, vice president and co-founder of Kineto Wireless. “The addition of ZTE to our stable of device partners is a testament to the fact that operators and subscribers are demanding Smart Wi-Fi capabilities. ZTE is one of the fastest growing of the smartphone manufacturers, and so we are excited to have Smart Wi-Fi pre-loaded on the Skate.”
