ZTE’s IP RAN technology helps China Telecom activate LTE eMBMS service

LTE eMBMS service delivers smooth mobile video services and high-quality voice calls simultaneously to user

17 October 2014, Shenzhen, China – ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment, network solutions and mobile devices, is helping China Telecom Group roll out the country’s first eMBMS (evolved multiple broadcast multiple service) system running on a hybrid 4G LTE network.

China Telecom’s eMBMS service, launched in the eastern Chinese city of Wuxi, is powered by ZTE’s IP RAN (radio access network) technology, enabling smooth mobile video services and high-quality voice calls to be delivered simultaneously. The IP RAN multicast service attained millisecond-level reliability standards.

ZTE’s IP RAN solutions including the ZXCTN 9000-E and ZXCTN 6000, based on industry-leading architecture, fully supports large-capacity, all-service and multi-scenario deployments. The ZXCTN 9000-E series delivers high-performance routing capabilities, rich L2/L3 VPN and seamless MPLS (multiprotocol label switching) when deployed as the base of the IP RAN core aggregation layer. The compact ZXCTN 6000 series can be deployed at the IP RAN access layer, offering highly integrated multiple ports, including 10G/microwave ports. ZTE’s IP RAN products support many multicast technologies, e.g. VLAN/VPLS (virtual local area network/virtual private LAN service) IGMP (internet group management protocol) snooping multicast, PIM-SM/DM (protocol independent multicast sparse mode/dense mode), PIM-SSM (source-specific multicast), SSM-mapping, PIM-BFD(bidirectional forwarding detection), cross-domain multicast, GRE (generic routing encapsulation) multicast, P2MP LSP (point to multi-point line signal processing) and multicast filtration.

As an increasing number of 4G LTE networks are being launched globally, carriers are looking to integrated service bearers and large bandwidth to deliver mobile video services to users. P2MP multicast is the best way to ensure highly efficient video transmission and lowest resource wastage at the same time. By making the best use of the LTE which is known for large bandwidth, low latency and all-IP feature, the LTE eMBMS technology uses multicast and broadcast technologies to deliver mobile video services.
