ZTE unveils new 4K ultra high-definition set-top boxes at BBWF
20 October 2015, London – ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, unveiled new ultra high-definition (UHD) set-top boxes (STBs) supporting 4K resolution to deliver an enhanced viewing experience to homes around the world. Making its debut at Broadband World Forum (BBWF) 2015 in London, the ZXV10 B860AV2 (V2) is a next-generation 4K/UHD STB which will replace the ZXV10 B860A launched last year.
The ZTE V2 is available in black or white and features a compact design (110mm×110mm×32.5mm). It adopts a 64-bit system architecture with a superior premium system on chip (SOC) (Quad-core CPU). The SOC carries out high-performance complex algorithms and possesses a dedicated graphics processing unit (GPU) to support 4K (3840×2160 at 60fps) resolution for a complete UHD viewing experience. The V2 utilises the advanced hardware decoding of the H.265 (HEVC) video codec, which has the potential to save up to 50 percent more bandwidth than the H.264. The H.265 can deliver a better quality of encoding, helping operators eliminate bandwidth bottlenecks and accelerate the development of UHD services. The V2 leverages the latest Android 5.1 system and integrates ZTE’s Smart Home 2.0 platform, including 3D games, web browsing, 1080p video communication, and second-screen remote control. The V2 can support advanced security and super security, and the V2 can be customized to support these DRM (Verimatrix, Playready). Due to the proliferation of electronic devices, Wi-Fi signals have become heavily burdened. The V2 adopts 2.4/5G dual Wi-Fi to reduce frequency interference in the 5G band and improve audio and video quality as a result.
4K/UHD is an inevitable upcoming industry trend. ZTE launched the first 4K/UHD STB B803 at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 in Barcelona. In December 2014, the Sichuan branch of China Telecom held a press conference announcing it has put its first domestic 4K super HD ITV service into application. ZTE, as one of the partners of Sichuan Telecom, released its self-developed super HD 4K STB product B860A at the same time. ZTE delivered more than one million B860A units until October, 2015. As a global leader in IPTV solutions, ZTE is committed to the development of next-generation STBs to help operators around the world deliver superior home entertainment experiences to subscribers. According to the Global IPTV Report 2014 by research firm MRG, ZTE is the number one global provider of IPTV STBs.
